Larissa789 ... explains it all!! Friday Feature and Giveaway 8-14~8-20

It is Friday again.. This week we are QnAing with LArissa from www.Larissa789.Etsy.Com

1.Who is Larissa?
I'm just a simple girl who likes to try everything! I am constantly online looking something crafty up to try. Normally, I have my 9 month old crawling around my feet wanting attention. I love Etsy and enjoy putting my work up to share with other people.

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
Like I said in my previous answer, I am always looking up something to try. Which means my crafting abilities are very wide spread! I love to make jewelry, sew, knit, crochet, needle felt, scrapbook, decoupage, paint, draw (though I'm horrible at it!) work with clay and anything else interesting I find. I'm not saying I'm good at any of those, because most of them, I'm really not! But I love to try it all and be able to do any fun projects I see. But my main shop is only jewelry. I opened my second shop for everything else! =) I have been crafting my whole life, but I just started working with jewelry about 3 years ago and only really intensely about a year and a half ago.

3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from things I see walking down the street, things I see on the internet, things people say. It's really varied. Sometime I just feel inspired to make something out of no where!

4. What is your favorite medium?
Probably all my jewelry making supplies. Like my beads and chains and everything that goes along with that. I don't

5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
Etsy is my passion. My art. I love to create things to add to my shop and it is really exciting to see what other people think about it. I am a stay at home mom so I don't have a full-time job really. I would eventually love to open a shop with all the results of my crafts in it. But I don't know if that is feasible!

6. How did you find Etsy?
I think a friend was showing me some baby things on Etsy and later I checked it out myself. I set up an account to purchase things originally, then decided to open a shop about 2 months later. I wish I would have used a different username, but I already had some feedback that I didn't want to sacrifice.

7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
A friend told me to go check out the chat rooms and I was instantly addicted. I think I am a chat addict by nature, so when I entered the Etsy chat rooms it was even easier to get addicted when everyone is talking about the things I love most!

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
I am so obsessed with The Littlest Mushroom Cameo necklace. I just finished it recently but it really is me in necklace form! I love it! I still am not sure that I want to part with it! I also really love the Rainy Days in Spring necklace. I think it is pretty unique and clever.

9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
I am always obsessed with sparklerocks shop! I just love everything she makes! But I can't get enough of blueberryshoes, plushlifeisyummy, jupita, thelovelyteaspoon and cashewedalmonds. Is that too many? I think not. I told you I am obsessed with Etsy!

10.Tips for other Artists?
Be yourself and don't try to do what is "cool" or what everyone else is doing if it isn't you!
Get out there and make yourself known! Talk to people so more people will know about your shop.
Trade. It's fun! =)

11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I don't really have any secrets...well nothing that I can think of. Man, I'm so lame!

12. Any parting words of wisdom?
Never take a laxative and a sleeping pill at the same time.
Never play leapfrog with a unicorn.
Never do your shoelaces up in a revolving door.
Avoid parking tickets - leave your window wipers on fast-wipe.
When everythings going your way - you're in the wrong lane.
When sliding down the bannister of life - make sure the splinters are facing the right way.

FroggyFibers Fabulous Features Friday Fantastical!!

For those of you who dont know Froggyfibers already...boy are you missing out!!

Froggyfibers.etsy.com is one of my most favorite shops on Etsy!! I love her fibers, and I am certain you all will too.

Come take a moment to get acquainted!!

1.Who is FroggyFibers?
Froggy Fibers is a genius and fiber superstar! Okay, I like to think if I say that out loud that it will become true. =D Honestly, Froggy Fibers is one woman named LaRhanda who has the most undying support of her husband and son. If they weren't in the background cheering me on I doubt I would be nearly as sane as I am. **madly cackles**

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I dye, spin, knit and crochet fibers of all kinds. I also occasionally do some felting as well. As far as how long I have been doing, well I wish I could say forever. My recent addictions started in early 2004 but I have an on again, off again love affair going.

3. Where do you pull your inspiration from? My inspiration comes from the deep recesses of my brain. Its all that trying to connect color to reality. Or really, just anything can strike my fancy. I need to get one of those notepads and write it down sometimes.

4. What is your favorite medium?
Currently my favorite medium is fiber... any form of fiber. I may change it to sewing or painting on day (I've done them both before) but who knows.

5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
Ohhh, had question. Etsy is both at the moment. I was employed full time and the economy caused cutbacks at my job. So right now Etsy is my income, If I had my way right now I would open a store for the fiber artists online and then a brick and mortar.

6. How did you find Etsy?
I found Etsy by accident. I was checking out a spinners website and they had the link to Etsy where they had set up their online store. I waited 2-3 months because I wanted to come up with a business username since it can't be changed later.

7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
How? When is the question... from the moment they introduced Chat I was in the rooms. I have watched so many permutations of chat and see so many people come and go. When I first went into chat I was on the bottom row, now I am almost always the first avatar in the room. (Which is only significant if people know that the avatars in chat are organized by account age Oldest to Newest)

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
To date I am pretty excited about my Princess Goldilocks handspun yarn and also a custom order I did in lime green and violet.

9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
I have to say that I am loving on some staceyrebecca and abitabite. StaceyRebecca makes the cutest little finger puppets but in real life she does adult puppet shows. Its always the quiet ones you have to watch out for. =P
Abitabite is great cause she makes plush prick pincushions. 'Nuff said.

10.Tips for other Artists?
Be Yourself.
Do what makes you Happy.
Work hard, money wont fall in your lap by accident.
In the event money did fall in your lap, send me the lottery ticket and keep working hard. =P

11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I don't have secrets. I can't keep my damned mouth shut. That may be the biggest secret of all but if you are around me for any length of time you would find that out. Oh, I could say something like “I'm kinky in bed.” I could say something like that... but then again I might be lying for the purposes of having a secret.

12. Any parting words of wisdom
No matter what they say, those pictures will end up on the internet. ;D

Now.. A giveaway!!!
Froggyfibers is giving away to one lucky reader.. "Gruppleberry" Roving. See it:
You can opt to have it spun into a single or 2 ply yarn.

MissMooseDesign's Feature and Giveaway

1. Who is MissMooseDesign?

I am a stay at home mom and I just think of myself as simple. I hang my clothes out on the laundry line and I mop as often as I can force myself to. I am married to my best friend and my little girl has my heart. I craft when I have free time and enjoy every moment before it can sneak by. I love the first time you smell a charcoal grill in the spring and hate two piece bathing suits. I love reclaimed items and hand stitched quilts. You might say I’m an old soul. I don’t wear make-up but think it looks phenomenal on others. I have two rescued mutts and prefer to grow my own vegetables. If I had to iron my clothes everyday I would probably run out into traffic. I would say that I am definitely blessed beyond belief.

2. What is your Art / Craft of choice?

I love working with old stuff. Vintage buttons and old deserted quilt tops are my favorites!

3. How did you find Etsy?

I was a buyer before I was a seller :)

4. What about Chat.. How did you become addicted?

I started chatting as a promotional tool. Everyone said you needed to start making connections. So...I did. What I did not expect was to develop friendships with those little spinning and bouncing avatars. I have met some people who mean a great deal to me. Friendships I am lucky to have been blessed with. Now I chat to catch up on life stuff, laugh until my sides hurt, or offer support if needed.

5. What is your advice for other Artists and Etsy Sellers?

Let's be honest with one another...I'm not raking in the big bucks! Despite that, I love being a seller on Etsy. I think my only advice is to have fun. Etsy is not just about money. It is about a community of artists coming together and supporting one another. There is an awesome opportunity to connect with other like-minded people at your fingertips and to pass it by would be unfortunate. I have made three life long friends through Etsy that money could not replace. Not to say that you shouldn't run a shop and do it well...just don't forget to stop and smell the roses along the way.

6. What three Arts / Crafting items can you not live without?

My rotary cutter (though I am accident prone!), my Singer Futura embroidery machine, and my dremel!

7.Any last words?

KoKoPinto is sooo adorable.. come see!

SHOP: http://kokopinto.etsy.com
BLOG: http://kokopinto.blogspot.com
TWITTER: http://twitter.com/kokopinto
FACEBOOK: http://facebook.com/kokopinto

And my interview:

1. Who is Kokopinto?

I am Kathea Pinto, I just turned 24. I live with my mum and my 6-year old brother Joaquin who is basically the second-in-command of the whole Kokopinto shop! The name “Kokopinto” actually has a weird history about it. Who would want a brand name associated with an ex-boyfriend, right? Well it was back in college and we have been broken up for a few months when he sent me a brown teddy bear in hopes of us getting back together. I just thought then ‘hmm, he is cuckoo about me’, ‘hmm, cuckoo, kookoo, koko, I’ll name the bear Koko!’ Then it was also during that time that I was studying brand identities in school and it basically came clear to me that I just struck a gold mine! If ever he is reading this, for the record, I came up with the name and stop Google-ing me.

In a deeper sense of it all, Kokopinto somewhat means “doors to crazy rooms in my imaginative noggin” as -pinto is “door” in my native tongue.

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?

I paint, I draw but mostly I love creating stuff in 3D. So aside from my Playdoh critters, I’m good with paper mache. And if I knew how to pottery or jewelry, I might do well with those too. I’ve been painting and drawing as long as I could remember. I’m also good with painting in a large scale. Like big plain white walls. I did theater props and backdrop throughout high school, then I did a massive painted mural project for Burger King 2-3 years ago, and happy that they still haven’t painted over it.

(You can find documentation here http://www.behance.net/kokopinto and here http://artiste.multiply.com/photos/album/34/Burger_King_Murals )

I made the Playdoh Critters to divert my fear of sheets of clean paper and canvas and basically Playdoh was competing abundance with paper at home, I mean with the mess, if you know what I mean. I can paint and draw on big walls but I suck in painting on small paper and canvas. I hate wasting paper and I hated erasers. Fine art school and Photoshop did that for me I guess, our professors told me then to be sure of our strokes and erase as little as possible. I've never been so sure of my strokes haha, so I just hated erasers instead. And I’m quite the perfectionist too and that doesn’t work well with Impressionism I guess. So I need more training on that realm. But for now, I’m quite happy with my Playdoh critters as they are now moving on to archival prints (I’m working on these lovely dioramas now, have yet to see how that works out) and perhaps on wall decals as well, large scale wall décor are still my best friends.
3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?

Being a full time nanny to my brother, picking up after his toys, cleaning up his mess and then during his school and nap time, I get to surf Etsy and a whole lot of other sites, seeing million wonders of the world in a click.
4. What is your favorite medium?

I find acrylic paint and Playdoh both juicy and yummy, I drool, literally, and Photoshop, making the perfectionist in me survive but more like indulging it.

5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?

I worked different jobs and gigs, graphic designer, stylist, art director, muralist, before finally settling in on a one track plan last year - to put up my own business, basically selling what I can produce. I did well with being told what to do but couldn’t really see myself doing it on a long term basis, so the stubbornness won and I just had to become my own boss. I’m still working on a few kinks like I still get my own coffee and would wish to do that for the rest of my life even if 6-year old assistants are readily available. Etsy made me quit my job/s because they offered me more than a job. Etsy offered me a whole life’s work to be had.
6. How did you find Etsy?

I stumbled on this seller’s camera case – http://hine.etsy.com and everything just came after that.
7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?

Every time I Etsy chat, I discover a whole bunch of new artisans that make me go, “where have you been hiding?” then I stalk them for sometime and when I could squeeze in a bit of blogging, I turn into a really obsessed fan (it doesn't show much) and do a write up about them.
8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?

My favorite pieces right now are the Playdoh critters. I've never came up with anything that grows.
9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?

These are the ones I know by heart: thisisalliknow, fifilapin, littlebrownpen, upupcreative, creativethursday, sarahseven, monograft, rachelmarssden and well a whole lot more!

10. Tips for other Artists?

All artists actually became artists because they do what they love to do, so I can't really say anything more that we all already know on that part. So my two cents would be about these:

When typing your shop or blog URL like on a blog post or a link share, drop the “www” already. People remember your shop name more when they see it first and without the “www”. The “https://” is okay because it is necessary to make it into a working link in some and well it looks complete, but the “www” is a bit too much especially if your shop name is long plus the host site’s name.

If you can already, go green.
Finish the food on your plate, learn to estimate.
Read more, listen more, watch more, eat more, visit more of things and places you don’t usually read, listen, watch, eat, and visit.
11. Tell me a Secret about yourself.

HBO always grants my movie wishes. I think of an old or new movie I want to see, then in a day or two, they’ll be showing it. I recently thought of What Dreams May Come and Sleepless in Seattle and they are showing it right now. Occassionally, I'm part psychic in TV movie guides, in my artworks, and in dreams.
12. Any parting words of wisdom

It’s always ALWAYS better making something out of nothing than nothing out of something.

Giveaway: For every SIX participants in this giveaway, I will draw ONE WINNER who will get a Playdoh Critter Printable Set (gift tags, note cards, letterhead, envelope, PLUS bookmarks, and monthly planner) so if there will be 18 participants, 3 printable sets will be at stake! DukDesigns is AWESOME!! Come see why...

1. Who is dukdesigns? Heather Wayne is the owner-operator of DuK Designs. Specializing in designing handbags and backpacks, Heather expresses her creative side through designing different bags with a bit of engineering skills, color coordinating, and imaginative exploration... no patterns!

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? I love my sewing machine! If it involves fabric and thread, I am in! How long have you been doing it? I learned the beginner skills of quilting and sewing when I was a young girl. However, it wasn't until after graduating college that I took the time to grow my skills and dedicate time to sewing. While job-hunting I needed something to invest my time and energy. I bought a brand new sewing machine and started creating bags.

3. Where do you pull your inspiration from? I love fabrics and draw inspiration from the beautiful variety of different fabric designs and colors! I can spend hours in the sewing store and online, pulling together fabrics, colors, and gathering ideas for new designs.

4. What is your favorite medium? Purse design.

5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project? It started out as my full-time job, and I remained dedicated to my Etsy shop on a 50 hour work week schedule for 8 months. Recently, however, I was offered a full-time job in my field of study (Human Services), and I now work my Etsy shop part-time. But my love and passion for designing is definitely more than a hobby to me! I am whole-heartly dedicated to it!

6. How did you find Etsy? A close friend of mine saw the bags that I had created and told me I needed to check out Etsy. The rest is history!

7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT? I first started joining chat as a way to promote my shop. After getting to know many Etsy regulars, it became more of a daily socializing ritual for me! I have gotten to meet so many awesome people online through Etsy. Now if I don't get my daily Etsy chat time, the day is just not the same!

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done? I created a "Skulls and Roses" handbag, which I was totally impressed with. The skulls theme is not something I would personally consider “my style,” however, once it was completed, I was IN LOVE with the bag! The colors of red and black, and the goldish rings I used all pulled this bag together so perfectly. It was really a piece of art to me... and one hot lookin' bag!

9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)? Oooh that's tough because I have several close Etsy friends who all have awesome shops!

10.Tips for other Artists? If you are ever faced with a time where you lack creative inspiration or motivation, go back to the roots of when you first fell in love with your art and draw upon that passion.

11. Tell me a Secret about yourself. I am an avid NASCAR fan. Only my close friends know that about me, and if I tell people that I love NASCAR, they seemed surprised. I guess because it’s not the most girly sport in the world. But I have been around racing my whole life, so it’s in my blood.

12. Any parting words of wisdom? Questions? Comments. Do what you love and love what you do. And don't ever sell yourself short! Don't mark your product down in price because you are anxious for a sale. When the right buyer comes along, they will pay you what you say it is worth! And you deserve the compensation for your hard work!

Meet cuddlycuties!!!

1. Who is cuddlycuties?
Cuddlycuties is the product of two friends who love to sew and together got drawn in by the wonderful world of machine embroidery. The things you see in Cuddlycuties' shop today are made by Dawn. Shannon is the second member of Cuddlycuties, and she contributes more to the shop in the way of fulfilling custom requests.

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I have been sewing for more years than I care to count, definitely more than 25. Machine embroidery came into my life just over a year ago. I also do knitting, and many other crafts. My grandmother taught me to knit when I was about 5 years old, so I've been knitting for around 30 years now.

3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
I get most of my inspiration from my son. I start with things I loved to have when he was a baby, and add in things I wish I had then. Other inspiration just comes from life. I will get an idea of something that would make my life easier, and usually end up thinking "I could make that!"

4. What is your favorite medium?
I love natural fabrics for sewing and knitting. I am currently in love with embroidery though, so I have expanded my horizons to include it in my favorites.

5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
My time with my son is my full time job, but I would like to make Etsy into a full time venture as well.

6. How did you find Etsy?
My aunt called me one day and told me about this website she had read about in a magazine, and I checked it out that same day. Signed up that day, and then started formulating a plan to make a go of it.

7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
I decided one day to see what Etsy chat was all about, and I've been hooked ever since.

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
I have a hard time picking a favorite piece. They all have different things I love about them.

9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
For someone who hates picking favorites of anything (I still don't have a favorite color!), this is a difficult question. Today my favorite shop is Heathens Hearth. I absolutely adore their soap.

10.Tips for other Artists?
Do the art you love the most. In the end, whether you make a profit or not is not important. It's if you enjoyed the labor that went into the pieces you made.

11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I'm terrible at keeping secrets, so I don't think there are any left!

12. Any parting words of wisdom?
Don't give up! The more difficult the road to success, the more rewarding in the end.

and now..

Cuddlycuties will be giving away a market tote embroidered with the winning shop's information.! How fun would that be to have?!! You can have something functional, eco friendly and ADVERTISE your shop! awesome.

All you have to do is go to: CUDDLYCUTIES etsy shop then....

1. pick your favorite item. Come back here and leave a comment on what your fav item is. (for 1 entry)

2. FOLLOW the chatters team blog and comment here (for 1 entry)

3. Purchase something from Cuddlycuties, come back here and comment TWICE leaving the link to your transaction page here. (for 2 entries)

Winner will be chosen by random number generator in one week (Friday June 12).

Let's meet DingsInsainity

1. Who is DingsInsainity?
Dingsinsainity is the brain child of a one man band named Emma who is a messy painter, eccentric drawer and somewhat insane cat lover.

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I mainly focus on drawing and painter which I have done since a very young child (mainly on the walls back then) but I also love to knit and sew and am always finding great fun in trying new things (the messier the better).

3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
Other people are my main inspiration but things I see walking around and music are also a huge stimulus for me.

4. What is your favorite medium?
Oh that is a difficult one, I absolutely love finding new mediums, weird and wonderful ones produce some of the most fantastic work. For example of couple of years ago I made a corset entirely from sweet wrappers. I do find pencil and paper to be a trusty old friend now though that feels like second nature.

5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
At the moment it has to share my time with my day job but I live in hope that one day I can proudly say my art is my full time job 

6. How did you find Etsy?
My Mum was already a seller for a while on here before I joined and she had recommended it and one day I took the plunge and I’ve been addicted ever since.

7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
I stubbled into the chat room the day I joined Etsy, at the time I had just finished college and was also (sadly) unemployed so had plenty of time on my hands and I was hooked within 5 minuets.

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
I’m not sure I could pick, the time and sometimes agony that goes into getting the piece how I like it is so different with each one and no piece is ever the same and I have never to this day hated doing any of the pieces I have but I think I would have to say custom pieces I do are my favourite as they are something somebody else has challenged me to do.

9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
Oh there are so many great ones but I think I would have to go with AshleyG!

10.Tips for other Artists?
Never ever loose your enthusiasm, even if there are no sales, no new readers on blogs, don’t loose your enthusiasm because then you need to ask yourself if you’ve lost the essence of why you love creating what your creating?

11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I ate ice cream for breakfast this morning hehe

Miasophia Rocks.. Come and meet her and a giveaway too!

Let's all say a cheery hello to miasophia !!

One of our chatters with some amazing jewelry. Here is a bit about her:

1. Who is miasophia? I am a suburban stay at home mom who dreams of fancier things. I adore where I am in my life, but I love Italian art and French design. Vintage European design captures me the most. I love how feminine it all is.

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I am a jewelry designer and have been designing for a little over two years. But only began selling it on etsy a little over a year ago.

3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
Books mostly. Since my beautiful daughters keep me occupied here I study books.

4. What is your favorite medium? While I am currently trying to focus on silversmithing I can’t seem to keep away from vintage things. I seem to find vintage beads wherever I go. I buy the old jewelry, take it apart and viola! New fun things to create!

5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
My full time job is my daughters, so I would say my Etsy shop is my Art.

6. How did you find Etsy?
Watching Martha Stewart, the BlackApple was making one of her dolls. I went to investigate and was hooked that day!

7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
How does anyone explain an addiction? You find your self in a situation where you feel the need and drawn into whatever feeds that need! Ha ha. I love the friendships, fun, interesting people and amazing artists you find in there. Even the occasional drama is fun. Everything is better with a little spice.

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
Wow, every week it changes, depending on what I create. Right now I’m working on a very long necklace made from vintage rosary chain, so right now, that is my favorite of what I'm making. However, I wear simpler things. I have made and then kept and constantly wear a simple purple bead on a chain. It is really fun. I sit and spin it on it's wire while I think. It seems to suit me.

9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
Unfortunately, I can’t pick one. I love the other jewelry artists who create, I love the newbies just finding their way, I love to see the pottery (amazing stuff there!) and the photographers and painters. I can’t say I have just one favorite.

10.Tips for other Artists? Stay true to yourself and your vision. Surround yourself with people and things that feed your soul.

11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I don’t wear much jewelry at all! Earrings (just studs), an simple necklace (one of my favs is a purple solitary bead I created for my shop but kept for myself) and a ring my daughter got me in Greece, which I only wear when I go out.

12. Any parting words of wisdom?

The thing I struggle with the most is not getting caught up in the commercial side of Etsy. Also there is a huge “I can make that” draw. I try not to look too often at many jewelry artists who are similar in style to me because I find myself thinking in their designs. I have to go back to my books and clear my head to re-focus on what it is I want to create. So, I would say for other artists to know yourself and what you want, stay focused on your true desires and abilities and, no matter what the sales numbers say, you will love what you are doing. That is how I stay an artist and not get caught up in the commercial side.

Let's Meet Heartsabustin! -Friday Blog Feature

1. Who is heartsabustin?

heartsabustin is a two-woman, mom and daughter team who work respectively out of Knoxville, TN and Wilmington, NC. Mom Kathryn is an ophthalmic tech during the day and daughter Erin is a stay-at-home mom at Etsy guru for the heartsabustin team.We found a mutual love for jewlery making about three months apart three years ago.

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?

Kathryn went to the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota back in the freewheeling 70s and became a fabulous master watercolorist. Three years ago, she discovered the immense satisfaction of stringing beads and bits of metal on beading wire.

Erin taught herself to sew when she was twenty ('cause she can't draw or paint worth a lick!), and has immersed herself in several fun crafts - crocheting, quilting, home sewing and cross stitch. Jewelry making became an extension of the clothing sewing because most commercial jewelry is just not that cool. (Can we get a heck yeah on that one?)

3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?

Everywhere - dreams, magazines, colors, shapes. Kathryn and Erin both have tear sheets all over their repective work spaces in their homes.

4. What is your favorite medium?

Gemstones, glass beads, vintage findings, and sterling silver with gold-filled thrown in for fun. Swarovski crystals are a must in almost every piece we make.

5. Is Etsy a full time job, or just an on-the-side project?

For Kathryn, her full-time job is working for an ophthalmologist. For Erin, her full-time job is being a wife and mother. So for both of us, it is a side job, but one that we take great satisfaction from and have a lot of fun doing!

DANCERS

6. How did you find Etsy?

Kathryn found it while browsing the Internet one fateful night. Last July, she set up the storefront, but we had to wait until Erin got a computer to begin listing items.

7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?

The usual way - Erin was bored and decided to check it out. She'd never been in a chat room before - ever. She found lots of friendly people who were willing to answer a newbie's questions. She got totally hooked!

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?

Wow, there are so many! Erin's personal favorite right now is her new "Queen of the Sunflowers." It shows a certain maturity starting to form in her polymer clay work.

9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?

Kathryn's would probably have to be ImagineStudio. Not only is her artwork amazing, she is a wonderful, sweet person on top of it! Erin is hooked on DukDesigns right now. Who knew Erin would be such a bag freak?

Opals and Avon

10. Tips for other Artists?

Believe in yourself, and everyone else will believe in you, too!

11. Tell me a secret about yourself.

Erin is 100% terrified of the rattlesnake rattle earrings that Kathryn just bought. LOL

12. Any parting words of wisdom? Questions? Comments?

Having an Etsy shop is a LOT of hard work, if you want it to succeed. We spend entirely too much time doing this, but we love it. We have found that if you really love something, you are willing to work your tail end off for it, no matter what.

Let's meet NemesisProductions

It is the time of week again where we meet our Chat Team Members.. This week Nemesisproductions is on the hotseat!!

Keep reading and be sure to enter the giveaway
!
Here is her QnA:

1. Who is NemesisProductions?

I love all things spooky, enjoy goth and industrial music, wear black as much as possible, adore black cats and bats, and like sci-fi and fantasy. I have even done my fair share of dice rolling while playing an elf.

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?

I'm a life-long bath and body junkie. I make all of my product myself, as well as take all the product photos, handle all the packaging and shipping as well as customer service. I have always loved photography as well as bath and body items, so it brings me a great deal of satisfaction making things for others that I would want to buy myself. In fact, I use the stuff I make all the time, and I also continue to buy soap from other artisans. Everyone has their own style, and I love to try out things that I can't do or are different from my creations as much as I can. I also really enjoy having more control over what I put on my body, and knowing the ingredients.

A print from nemesisproductions.

I've been taking photos for years, since I was going to clubs and seeing bands play live, which is where I first became a shutterbug. A few years ago a friend bought me a digital camera as a gift, and the rest, as they say is history. I ended up going on a last-minute urban exploration trip and was amazed with the images I managed to capture. I've been serious about photography every since.

3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?

I pull inspiration from all over. I now find myself looking at objects, cake and cookie molds, and flowers wondering how I might use them to create soap or how they would look embedded in a bar. I really enjoy doing custom orders...I like the inspiration customers provide, and some of the things people have requested have become staples in my shop.

4. What is your favorite medium?

I guess my favorite medium would be my soap bases. They are the start of any soap project. My essential oils and fragrance oils are a very close second.

5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?

Etsy is my full-time job. No doubt about it.

Jewelry!!!
6. How did you find Etsy?

I actually found out about it on the abandoned places community on livejournal. I had asked where some of the photographers there sold their work, and someone recommended Etsy. I decided to check it out, and here I am.

7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?

I became addicted the minute I found it! I was very fortunate to meet some lovely people right away, and it took a long time for me to have a negative experience in a chat room. My regular chat crew is funny, talented, and a great stress reliever. I laugh a great deal more, and I think that I would be very lonely indeed if I wasn't in chat. I've always liked being active on the internet, especially with chat rooms and instant messengers, so being in the chat on Etsy is just natural for me.

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?

Wow. It's so hard to pick just one. I think my current favorite is my I Heart soaps. They're fun.

9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)? Again, another incredibly hard question! There are so many amazing shops. I do have a serious soft spot for mooshoopork's shop though. Her little people are just too adorable.

This Skull in heart soap is soooo cute!
10.Tips for other Artists?

I think my biggest tip is to continue to give yourself credit. Sometimes being an artist/artisan can feel like it's a never-ending struggle or that you really aren't getting anywhere, but if you truly love what you create, always be sure to cheer yourself on even if others don't support you and your decisions. NEVER let someone tell you that your creations are worthless or a waste of time.

11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.

I'm actually a ninja.

12. Any parting words of wisdom? Questions? Comments

Just love yourself, and remember that you are a person who deserves respect and courtesy. Always be sure to give it in return. Don't look to others for the source of your self-esteem...it has to come from within. In the end, it doesn't matter what others think. If you can look at yourself in the mirror and be happy with who is staring back at you, then you're on the right path.

And remember, be excellent to each other!

Giveaway you say?

Featured Chatter Shop of the Week: Bibs4Drips

Bibs4Drips... What a cute name for an adorable shop.

Let's get to know her a bit more!!!

1. Who is bibs4drips?
Bibs4drips is my 3rd baby. I do treat it differently and it doesn’t get as many hugs and kisses as my two other children. But I think that’s ok and so far, it did very well. I want to see it grow up more and get stronger and bigger.

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I do crafting since I am a teenager. I started sewing with 16 when I got my first sewing machine. My grandma was a seamstress, I have grown up with it. I am also taking lots of photos and do my own cards (http://fragmentsbyedith.etsy.com and http://fragmentsbyedith.blogspot.com). My friends call me Martha Stewart because I do lots of things by hand as gifts.

3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
Necessity. And love for beautiful things. Photos. Fabrics. Colorful ribbons. My children. Thinking about something and then make it.

4. What is your favorite medium?
Fabric, the cutter the better. Photographs, paper and glue.

5. Is Etsy your art, your full time job, or just an on the side project?
Since I am a stay at home mom, I consider bibs4drips my part time job next to taking care of the kids and husband. I also love to take pictures and work on cards and name tags so I consider myself an artist in that regard.

6. How did you find Etsy?
I started with bibs4drips in the summer 2008 and was ready to give an update to all family and friends in the fall of that year. Shortly after I sent out my look-at-my-new-business email, my sister in law forwarded me an email from her friend who said I should check out Etsy and post my stuff there. I researched it for few days and signed up shortly after. Love it since!

7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
That wasn’t hard at all. I meet all these great people who are funny, talented, and willing to share their life with me. Most of them are supportive, helpful and enthusiastic. And this is what we need to be successful. Thank you all you Etsy addicts.

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
I think my bibs4drips are just sensational. They are small and handy and useful.

9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
Oh, this is a hard one. Really, I couldn’t list all the shops that I have looked at and loved. And booked marked. And looked at again.

10. Tips for other Artists?
Be yourself, believe in yourself and your product, provide a good made product and people will come.

11. Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I have moved to the US with 2 suitcases and $4000. That was 8 years ago. Now I have a handsome and smart husband, 2 beautiful kids and a life that I love.

12. Any parting words of wisdom? Questions? Comments?
Keep doing what you are doing. If you enjoy it, others will too.

And now.. a Giveaway!!! Edith (bibs4drips) will be giving away a one of her Lovies (like the cute yellow with bee one pictured here!!) Just go to her shop, and come back here commenting about what you love most in her shop!! NExt Friday, she will randomly select a winner and post that here!!

While you are at blogger, go on and check out Ediths Blog:
http://bibs4drips.blogspot.com.

Good luck, have fun and happy chatting!

Soap that looks delicious enough to eat!

On finding Etsy? "I just stumbled upon etsy looking for something in google years ago, but never opened a shop until a year ago."

As for Etsy Chat... Michelle told me "Etsy chat is awesome! I meet so many wonderful artists in there from all over, everybody is friendly and will to help at the drop of a hat. I have been addicted as soon as I started in the chatrooms."

Her favorite piece that she has done is the peppermint/cranberry massage soap that is in mbell34.etsy.com now. The aromas and the colors are what grabs her most about the soaps.

Mamaslittlemonkeys is our featured Chatter

Mamaslittlemonkeys is a fabulous little Etsy shop with all sorts of goodies. You can find everything from Baby Bibs, to duckie soaps, to clothes and more!

Mamaslittlemonkeys.Etsy.Com is also giving away a set of 12 wipes/cloths. All you need to do is go to her shop, come back here and tell me your favorite item. Next Friday we will randomly select a winner to receive this awesome, useful gift.

Now.. Let's get to know our mamaslittlemonkeys.....

1. Who is mamaslittlemonkey? A former rodeo clown....okay, no really, a mom, wife, friend, sister, blogger, handmade lover, seamstress, soaper, indie music loving, etsyholic, fabricholic, soapaholic crazy lady who happens to sell some nifty creations for baby, mom and more!

2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it? On www.mamaslittlemonkeys.com I do a little bit of everything, clothing, toys, blankets (I heart minky!), recycled crayons, photography, graphics, soap, gifts, gag gifts, and more! On www.fleurdeink.com that is purely my flower pens...something i used to love as a teacher and the only flower I can't kill....

Some CUTE Duckie Soaps!

3. Where do you pull your inspiration from? For MLM, my kids mostly! I don't have girls, so I get my 'girly' tendencies out there, and my boys inspire many of the prints I use (pirates are popular as of late....). On FDI, I just love flowers but have the blackest thumb EVER, so I love that i can have flowers that are functional, pretty and I can't kill. For my soaps, I just love them! Handmade soap is my porn. (can i say that? LOL) I love the colors, fragrances, the mad scientist aspect of it! I only do melt and pour as of now but am DYING to get into Cold process at some point!! ( as soon as I move through my current stock of soap/fabric supplies!)
4. What is your favorite medium? Sewing: minky..it is a PAIN in the butt to sew, but a good minky (yes there is bad minky), is just so freaking luxurious you just HAVE to touch it. I've been known to just wander the fabric aisles fondling everything. Soap: I love the fleur de lis mold...I'm still perfecting my black and gold "Saints" soap for the New Orleans Saints. It's my mission in life to get it PERFECT. And I only use soaps that are SLS free and as pure as possible. Flower pens: the 'realistic' roses...they feel so real and are just lovely to look at and feel. (can you tell I'm a tactile person?)

5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project? Right now, hobby. I've spent FAR too much ON etsy and on my fabric/soap supplies to actually pull a 'profit' at this point! :) But I plan on doing it for a long time! My 'real' job (besides being mommy), is I work from home as Public Relations/Promotions/Blogger for Blockhead Radio. You can check them out at http://www.blockheadradiolive.com. Its a great place for artisans and we focus on exposing artisans to the world. Check out the Artisans challenge and our charity sampler box that's going on now!

6. How did you find Etsy?this is the sad part. I honestly do NOT remember!! I think I found it from friends on a mommy networking site, but I honestly can't recall!

7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT? Because there are awesome freaking ppl there!! :) I just like hanging with people who also support and love handmade! And every now and then I get a sale! :) (ok I mostly go to chat...LOL)

Want something net to keep the kiddies occupied on those car trips? What about one of these crayon rolls?:

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done? Mmmmm. Sewn items, this is my latest: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22874549 I just LOVE michael Miller and the minky is devine.
Soap: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22742845 this gift basket is a baby of mine...something I decided to do months ago!
Flower Pens: this set, it's sold but I have more to list... I just love the roses in it! http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=13612820

9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)? Oh man. One? Seriously? is that possible? Crap. Man, I don't know if I can decide!! Man, this is hard, and in NO way a reflection of my MANY other favorite Etsy sellers! But I am really digging this shop lately.. and this listing.. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=20778667 because I really need a soap cutter and i LOVE all the wooden goodness! I also love www.banished.etsy.com bc he made me a super awesome anniversary gift for my DH! And i LOVe all my team members from Cafemom Team, Lartisans Team, Pluggers United and OF COURSE Etsychatters! :)

10.Tips for other Artists? DO NOT GIVE UP! Every time you get a sale, you should FEEL HONORED! In the wide world of Etsy, handmade, and shopping, someone chose YOUR item to bring into their life. Your hope is they love it as much as you, but if they are unhappy for any reason, you should do your very best to make them 110% happy. Never forget everyone you meet is a potential customer! If you aren't selling you need to look at either your items, your competition, or how you market yourself. (take the crappy economy out of the equation for a minute!) KEEP trying! Try new things, new venues, new promotions, new crafts!

Catch some of those dribbles.. A Funky, Punky Bib..

11.Tell me a Secret about yourself. I am 5'12", can curse in American Sign Language and have Celiac Disease and thus eat Gluten Free. (leading to another of my fave shops, www.shelovescake.etsy.com)

12. Any parting words of wisdom? Questions? Comments: Keep on trucking! :) Oh, and you can also check out my Cafepress shop! :) www.cafepress.com/momsmonkeys I love to do custom graphics!! :)

WOOOOT etsychatters!
